Tradition and modernity
We know wine, which is why we treat it with special care and all the tradition that our know-how gives us, with the best raw materials and providing every single drop of innovation, allowing us to enjoy wine in new ways.
Inherited tradition, inspired innovation
More than 100 years of history
1883
José Antonio Elosegi started his business with courage and as a result of the needs of that time. One night he decided to walk to the border with Navarre to bring back wine in a large wineskin, which would later be drunk by diners at the Gabiria Spa restaurant, where he and his wife worked. He soon got a mule and that’s how it started.
1900
José Antonio and his wife took a step further by moving to Ormaiztegui and opening an inn where the sale of wine was established as the main business, along with the sale of other necessities and staple foods.
1913
They already had a train carriage, purchased in Bilbao, inside which there was a large barrel with great capacity to hold large quantities of wine.
The objective: to go to La Mancha, where there were great wine producers, to negotiate with them and bring the good wine to the north for its subsequent distribution and sale.
1937
During the war the Elosegis moved to Beasain, a larger urban centre, where José Antonio had built a four-storey house, a milestone for that time, and he would set up the wine-selling business on the lower floors.
After the death of their father, the Elosegi sons continued to run the business. They already had a small fleet of distribution trucks and vans and they started to bring wine from other parts of Spain.
1978
Vinos Elosegi S.L. is established with the founder’s grandchildren, José Manuel and his cousin José Mari in charge of the business
1991
The 3rd generation of Elosegis moved to Olaberria, to a building built to locate the business where the activity continues to this day.
They expanded their business, incorporating their own wineries. Their knowledge of good wine was transferred to know-how under their own brand.
1998 - hoy
This is where the fourth generation of Elosegis, Mikel Elosegi and his cousin José Manuel Elosegi, took over the business from their parents and chose to take original and challenging paths.
With a much more professionalised and specialised approach, and exporting worldwide. Always with the knowledge of the most appropriate wine for each occasion.
